BUFFALO, NY— Franklin J. Sciortino, district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Buffalo district office announced today the names of 31 Small Business Week award winners from the 14 westernmost counties of New York State.
“We are extremely proud to honor and spot light all of the Western New York Small Business Week award winners for their outstanding achievements and entrepreneurial spirit.” As risk takers, innovators and employers, these winners reflect how small businesses contribute to both the state economy and their local communities.”
According to Regional Administrator Steve Bulger, who oversees federal agency operations in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Western New York’s National Small Business Week winners represent some of the best in the Empire State. “The SBA works to connect entrepreneurs to counseling and funding opportunities with lending partners that provide small business owners the boost they need to start, grow and expand. Our agency is proud to spotlight small businesses that not only make up our main streets and local downtowns throughout Western New York, but also personify the character of our nation,” Bulger said.
Presenting this year’s awards will be Michele DeLuca, a columnist, business reporter and lifestyle editor for the Niagara Gazette and the Lockport Journal.
“It’s an honor to participate in the Small Business Week Awards,” DeLuca said, adding that as a journalist and newspaper editor she has a keen understanding of what small businesses face today to stay solvent in crowded markets.
“Community newspapers are small businesses and we must hustle much like all small businesses, to keep our customers aware of and satisfied with our product,” she explained. She is also in a unique position to share tips with local businesses on how to get the attention of local media and has participated at the local SBA events where business representatives gather with media personalities to discuss ways to understand and enhance relationships with local media outlets.
Winners will be recognized on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the SBA Small Business Week Awards Luncheon. The luncheon will be held at the Salvatore’s Italian Gardens from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Tickets cost $45 per seat or $450 per table of 10.
